Cota Hidaway Review-Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable, which were huge plusses. The landlords seem exceptionally nice and live on the floor above. The backyard and patio are really wonderful, and it's really pleasant and quiet to be out there for dinner or just to relax. Here's a list of pros and cons:
Landlords live upstairs and seem really nice
Beautiful back yard and patio
Nice neighbors, lots of kids
Walking distance to Trade Joes, CVS, etc. (less than a mile; we walked our kids 8 and 5 yo there and back no problem)
Plenty of street parking
Good management company
Very comfortable beds with good mattresses (a huge plus)
Good trash and recycling, easy to take out
Apartment is small but well appointed and laid out; we had 2 adults and 2 kids and it was fine space-wise. Bathroom was small.
There is no heat in the apartment (or A/C). There are oil based space heaters that are not effective.
People drive down Cota Street very fast – it's a tight street with cars on both sides, and people drive far too fast down it; just need to be aware with small children.
Laundry is shared by 3 units (Cota Hideaway – this one; Cota Cottage – across the way; and the landlords upstairs), and is located across the backyard; Cota Hideway was allowed to use it Saturday, Monday, and Thursday and we were asked to keep it to 3 loads a week. We had 2 adults and 2 kids and this was tough to do (with towels, sheets, etc) – we really tried to keep it down, but it was more than three loads per week. The landlord was understanding and nice about this, and told us to do what we needed.
Sharp corners and transitions in the apartment; would not have kids younger than 3 years old stay here, but it was fine for our kids (5 and 8).
Low doorways – not a problem for us, except that my husband (6'1â€) hit his head on the second bedroom doorway a number of times; just something to be aware of.
Highly Recommended-“We had a wonderful stay! A very beautiful, quaint, and quiet home. Easy and fast communication. The neighbors were great, but parking is on a busy street and drivers drive fast. Overall, highly recommend.â€
They made us feel welcome-The Cota Hideaway is the lower level on a house in a quiet neighbourhood about 20-25 minute walk from State street. It is very nice and a perfect hideaway for a cosy weekend. The host is very nice and even though they left when we came, they made us feel welcome. We had some bad luck with being the first guests in some time so it was not perfectly cleaned when we came but easily solved and the host waived the cleaning fee for us which was very nicely done. We are a family with two small children and I would not recommend having children below three in the house since for example it has stone floors and narrow high beds. The living area is quite small but well set. The bathroom is very small but nicely renovated. The place would be perfect for two couples without children to spend a fun weekend away from home. Then the biggest disadvantage is the small bathroom but otherwise a great place to enjoy. If you plan to make food, there is no dishwasher but with lots of restaurants not too far away, that is not a major issue. It is handled by a vacation home rental company that did a very good job. First they handled the reservation very fast and were very responsive and they handled all our questions in a very professional manner.
Gorgeous house!-Really lovely, and quite comfortably furnished. My friends and I wished we could have stayed and enjoyed it longer after our conference! The two upstairs bedrooms can get pretty hot, but there are window AC units to cool them off. The kitchen is well stocked. Bathrooms have plenty of towels, plus basic toiletries. This home is rented out by a property management group, so it's not the same personal touch that you sometimes get with private owners, but we didn't have any issues.
